Terrain: Delta Outpost

Obviously this piece is inspired by the beam emitters from the halo franchise which shoot blue trails of light into space, showing up in Combat evolved and I’m pretty sure in all of the other games, at least in multiplayer maps.

I don’t have any plans to play the halo miniature game, but as a big fan of Halo 1-3 I wanted to have this as a centrepiece for a gaming table. It offers multiple stages of elevation if you include the little “landing” on the staircase, as well as just generally looking really cool. I was tempted to paint it in an outlandish colour like red or cyan, but in the end went for boring- but safe- grey. You can’t see it too well in the photos but I tried to do a streaked dot matrix to give a bit of interest to the plain grey at the top of the spire.

This first image is after only 1 coat of grey, whilst the other pictures are after 3 coats and some dot matrix and European earth application.

The Beam emitter makes a great background to photograph small groups of models on, but I suspect that it will be a huge pain to transport. I knew that this would be the case so I only glued the main spire upper and lower halves together for stability. The 2 landings as well as the central base and smaller of the two spires can all be disconnected to make storage and transport slightly easier.
