Metal Slug: Slug Gunner

Today I have another old build for you and it is quite a unique one. This is an unlicensed model kit, acquired for £35. The kit is 1/35 scale and comes with decals. Before receiving the kit, I was half convinced that this would be low quality, but decided to chance it based on the novelty of the subject.

Upon opening the box I was greeted with several runners of grey plastic required for building the vehicle itself as well as 2 effect part runners, one in bright pink and the other in bright yellow. I chose pink. The quality of the plastic itself is quite good and completed parts feel substantial in the hand. The placement of gates from the plastic injection process are also cleverly placed, with most of them hidden in the final build, which I did not expect initially.

The only warning I would give is that the silver parts you can see in the photos require a lot of care when removing them from the sprue. This is the first time that I have seen this type of construction, but the silver parts are essentially wrapped in a rubbery foil film which can easily tear during removal and reveal dull grey plastic underneath. For this reason, I would only advise scraping nubs with a hobby knife if you are prepared to paint the whole kit. As for me, I gave it a quick matt coat, using blue tack to cover transparent pink parts.

Effect parts in use. Those muzzle flash pieces are dangerously sharp.

There are other metal slug kits available including the harrier and the slug tank. Each model kit has at least 2 variants as far as I can tell, the grey scheme- shown here- and the navy/ police scheme. I had a good time with this kit and might pick up the tank one day.

That’s all for now, see you next time.
